Celeb nothingtowear blogger Eva Beva hit the dust yesterday evening while working on her bloggo. Apparently she suffered a sudden paroxism. Close family members attended her in her last moments, offering first-aid in the form of suggestions like ‘Would you please stop doing that?’ and ‘Imbecile’, but unfortunately our heroine snuffed it. Blog rest her soul.

Be warned: if a pepito swimming pools asks you to plug in an inflatable swimming pool to your car-lighter, just ignore him. His only aim is to vampirise the life-blood of your battery. Yesterday, at Camping Escorial, and in broad daylight, he certainly finished off mine, which had been working perfectly well for six years. Said battery would have lasted another six, had I not fallen prey to el pimpo’s dirty trickos.

Beware especially of his accomplice, Pichi Boyo, who acts the innocent toddler in need of a refreshing dip. Usually well combed and well turned-out, he uses great cunning and charm to win the confidence of his partner’s victim.

Cross-references are clickable links. However, they are not underlined. The way to spot them is to look for section or page numbers. For example, click on 1.5.2 Inlined Constants to read my definition of inlined constants in the first chapter.

This is contrary to most style guides that suggest putting it at the beginning of the citation. My rationale for this decision is that it is consistent with the order of bibliographical elements found in citations for traditional sources such as books, magazine articles, and newspapers in which the page number is last.

Given Örjan’s extensive knowledge of programming languages, I was especially grateful that he was the first person to acknowledge that Mastering the Fundamentals has a lot of historical perspective that simply cannot be found on other books on the subject.

Correct usage is nothing to brag about. More experienced programmers actually may look unfavorably at technical writers who place an unusually strong emphasis on using terms correctly. There are more important things to think about. Who really cares if a term is used loosely? We are computer programmers, not doctors or lawyers. I agree. As your knowledge of computer programming increases, the importance of terminology diminishes. All that really matters is good interface design and a bug-free, efficient implementation.
